In Memoriam: Thomas A. Robinette

Thomas A. Robinette, former President of the National Demolition Association (NDA) and industry icon of Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 20, 2024. He was 75 years old.
Tom was a beloved friend and mentor to many in the industry. He served as President of the National Demolition Association from 1999 to 2001 and was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
Tom, who was born to Clayburn and Rose Robinette, completed high school and wed Cheryl, his wife of more than 55 years. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and a SeaBee in the US Navy. Tom was an extremely dedicated businessman and a co-founder / owner and President of Robinette Demolition for 48 years.
He was a dedicated member of the National Demolition Association (NDA), serving as on multiple committees and chairing the Member Services Committee.
As chair, he spearheaded the creation of the renowned “Robinette Box,” a welcome package for new members filled with informative videos, whitepapers, and promotional materials including a complete Demolition Safety Program. Tom was also instrumental in developing the NDA Safety Manual.
The NDA said: “To our friend, we thank you for your unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership. Most of all, we thank you for your friendship.”
Tom is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Gregoire) and their two children, Michelle and T.J. Six grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Rebecca (Christian), Isaac, Tyler, and Terrance Jr. In addition to three great-grandchildren, Mikaela, Bella, and Chase. His sister, Clyda Robinette.
